How to install your hifold car seat correctly

Installing a child’s car seat can be troubling for parents and care givers as it isn’t always clear that you have installed them correctly. Studies show that 1 in 3 child seats are fitted incorrectly, resulting in common mistakes such as routing the seat belt incorrectly and having the seat belt too loose, running the risk of your child slipping out of the restraint.

It is so important to make sure that the car seat has been installed properly as mis-using the seat can be fatal, and almost as problematic as not using one at all. However, we are not here to scare you! We are here to help you install your brand new hifold booster seat to ensure a safe journey every time.

Preparing your hifold for use

Installing hifold is easy to do as you do not need any extra accessories or add-ons (which means less to carry around or worry about!).

The first thing to note about the hifold fit-and-fold booster seat is that once adjusted, you will not need to adjust any further until your child has grown. Once your child has grown, you will easily be able to adjust the seat up and out as and when you need to.

You will be able to tell that you have installed your hifold correctly when your child is sitting with their bottom and back flat against the back of the car seat, with the head and side rests sitting closely against their body, without any large gaps.

Slouching can prevent you from securing the hifold properly, so be aware of your little rascals not sitting up straight! You should hear the car seat components click into place when adjusted into different heights and width settings, which assures you that the car seat will not move around or loosen in transit.

Securing your child in the car seat

The first step is to bring the seatbelt across in front of the child and then adjust it into the right position. The seat belt should be routed through both sides of the lap belt guides, and it should position itself just off the child’s stomach.

Avoid placing the shoulder belt under the lap belt guide as this will prevent the seat belt from lying snugly against your child’s body (see image below).

Place the vehicle’s shoulder belt over the child’s chest and into the shoulder belt guide – hifold features two shoulder belt guides depending on which side of the car you are installing the car seat on, but please only use the side where the seat belt naturally draws from.

At this point you will notice that it is important to make sure that the head rest is adjusted properly, as this will ensure that the seat belt does not cut into the child’s neck or sit too high or low.

Look out for any twisting or snagging of the seat belt, as you should be able to pull the seat belt through the shoulder belt guide, above the red groove without any catching or resistance.

We would always recommend referring to the user manual, especially when you are first using the hifold booster seat. You can find it here
